What does refreshing a tattoo mean?

Every tattoo changes over the years: colours dull, black areas turn greyish and fine lines can blur. A touch-up – also called re-working – re-does your existing motif so that outlines, areas and colours stand out clearly and boldly again. Often a comparatively short session is enough to make a clear difference and give your tattoo new life.

Getting a tattoo re-worked – what happens?

In a touch-up the existing lines and areas of your tattoo are tattooed again to refresh what has faded and even out any blurring. Depending on the condition, we refresh only certain areas or rework the entire motif. The result is defined outlines, richer colours and a tattoo that looks the way you originally wanted again.

When should you refresh a tattoo?

In principle a tattoo can only be re-worked once it has fully healed. How early or late a touch-up makes sense depends on the area, the aftercare, sun exposure and the style – fine fineline tattoos or motifs on hands and feet, for example, often fade faster. In a short consultation we look at your tattoo and tell you honestly whether and to what extent a touch-up makes sense.

We refresh not only our own work but also motifs originally done elsewhere. So we can realistically assess the effort, it is best to send us a well-lit photo in advance via WhatsApp or Instagram. That way we clarify upfront whether a simple touch-up is enough or whether a larger rework will give the better result.

A refreshed tattoo needs the same care as a new one: clean it regularly, moisturise gently and consistently protect it from infection and sun. We give you aftercare instructions so your tattoo heals optimally and the fresh result lasts as long as possible.
