How is a tattoo session conducted at the studio?

Does getting a tattoo hurt?

Does getting a tattoo hurt?

Yes, a tattoo can hurt – but the pain is usually quite bearable if you're prepared. How strong it feels depends on the body part, design size, style, session length and how you feel that day. Our pain chart by body zone on the blog gives a good orientation.

Can I take breaks during the session?

Calm, steady breathing and a relaxed posture help the most. Music or headphones, some water and short breaks by arrangement also make longer sessions more comfortable.

Can I use numbing cream?

Can I use numbing cream?

/
Please don't use it on your own without discussing it with us first. Some creams change the skin and can make tattooing more difficult. Talk to your artist before the appointment – together we'll decide whether it makes sense for your design and body part.

AFTERCARE

Will I get aftercare instructions?

Clean the tattoo gently with lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free soap – usually morning and evening. Pat it dry with a clean towel (don't rub) and apply a thin layer of tattoo cream. Your artist will tell you how long to keep the covering on.

What should I avoid during healing?

How long does healing take?

How long does healing take?

/
As a rule, about 2–4 weeks. In the first 1–3 days the tattoo may be red, warm or slightly swollen; around day 4–7 the skin starts to peel; in weeks 2–4 the tattoo often looks healed although the skin is still regenerating.

Are scabs and itching normal?

Are scabs and itching normal?

/
Light scabbing, peeling and itching are often part of normal healing – the key is: don't scratch and don't pick. If the tattoo oozes heavily, smells unpleasant, swells strongly or discharges pus, please seek medical advice.

When can I get my tattoo touched up or refreshed?

When can I get my tattoo touched up or refreshed?

/
Only once it has fully healed. We also refresh tattoos originally done in other studios – send us a photo via WhatsApp or Instagram in advance and we'll give you a realistic estimate.

COVER UP

Can every old tattoo be covered up?

Can every old tattoo be covered up?

/
It depends on the size, colour, age and saturation of the existing tattoo: a small, light design is easier to cover than a large, very dark one. We assess what's possible in a personal consultation – feel free to send us a photo via WhatsApp or Instagram first.

How does a cover-up work?

How does a cover-up work?

/
The old tattoo isn't removed but overlaid with a new, usually larger design. To make the old lines disappear completely, we work with stronger contrasts, darker areas and shapes that deliberately incorporate the old tattoo – the result is an independent new piece, not a visible patch.

Which styles are suitable for a cover-up?

Which styles are suitable for a cover-up?

Blackwork, black & grey and realism work particularly well because they use depth, shading and contrast. Floral designs, ornaments and organic shapes are also excellent, as they offer plenty of creative freedom.

How much does a cover-up cost?

A cover-up starts at 150 € and depends on size and effort: medium-sized tattoos are 300–500 €, a full session 800 €. We'll set the exact price after the consultation.

Do I need a consultation beforehand?

Do I need a consultation beforehand?

/
Yes, we always plan a cover-up in a consultation before the appointment – in person at the studio or online. Together we define the design, size and process, honestly and without false promises.

Can scars or very dark tattoos be covered too?

Can scars or very dark tattoos be covered too?

/
In many cases, yes – it especially comes down to experience and the right concept. For heavily saturated tattoos it can make sense to work in several sessions or lighten the old tattoo first. Send us a well-lit photo and we'll realistically assess what's possible.
